    Hi guys,

I’m a film producer, currently considering a new 3D project. I wanted to canvass some opinion on the format, having never used it before. I’d be interested to hear what people’s thoughts are on 3D and whether it is the future of film or merely a flash in the pan? Anyone have any experience using it?

    Hi Neil,

Interesting one and also something im considering at present. Im looking to buy a new camera but want to make sure i get one that will cater for 3D.

The feedback from my friends is 50/50 on good or bad. I saw avatar in 3D and really enjoyed it, however i hear repeated stories about dizziness and headaches from others & and my GF :o ( no more 3D films for us together!!.

I think 3D only really makes the impact when objects or characters actually jump out of the screen at you rather than just giving the feeling of depth (which i felt was the main effect achieved by making avatar 3D).

Major cinema’s have installed expensive equipment (and special screens too im told) so they must be doing ok out of it and must feel that its worth the investment. More films are coming out in both 2D and 3D standards so i get the feeling it will be around for a while.

My response, give it a go, even if you never use it again, at least equipment is holding value while 3D is current and you can also add it to your portfolio and show you have experience with it.

Would love to be involved with a project like this, please PM me if this is possible.

    Best Wishes

    Nick

Thanks Nick. Interestingly I prefer the depth that 3D offers as opposed to things leaping out of the screen and that was what made Avatar so different to the 3D films I have seen before. I get the feeling that the Hollywood studios have jumped on the 3D bandwagon more as a way to encourage people back into cinemas rather than seeing it as a new standard. I think it would be a good experience to make a 3D film anyway.

Interesting, well What kind of film are you thinking of making? I’m a songwriter so would be happy to get involved

Recently read an article saying that films made in 2D, being screened in 3D are goig to kill off the 3D technology. intersting point, but I still think when its used as part of the film process to give depth etc, as you say Neil, it works wonders. Avatar was amazing!
